Benefits of Renewable Energy
Switching to renewable energy will bring many benefits, such as the following:
Jobs and Economy: Typically investment is on imported forms of energy, but renewable energy is investment within the United States. Normally, the investment would be spent in the same state or in the same town. This means that the money one would pay for electricity would stay locally, which leads to more job opportunities and the local economies will be fueled. Also, it will boost the economy for the U.S. because it exports (trades) renewable energy technologies to countries over seas.
Environment: Renewable energy is a clean source of energy that has a much lower environmental impact than other sources of energy. For example, renewable energy will avoid the use of nuclear power, petroleum, and coal. An example of one of the main benefits from using renewable energy would be that it doesn't cause water and air pollution, which also connects to the benefit of health.
Health: Our health will benefit from renewable energy because there will be less pollutions, such as water and air pollution, created by the fossil fuels used. This also means that the percent of some illnesses will go down. For example, there will not be as much asthma, cancer, allergies or other breathing problems.

Negative Impacts of Renewable Energy
Although renewable energy does help there are some down sides.
Solar: One major impact of solar power is the land use. Depending on the location, larger utility-scale are needed to generate enough power for the city. Wind: An impact of wind power is the harm it causes to migrating birds. When the birds migrate to where they need to go, they sometimes pass through areas with wind turbines. As the birds pass through and the turbines spin, some birds get hurt. Water: The impact of water energy is that it disrupts the natural flow of water, which makes it difficult for fishes to move down stream. As well, fishes are killed by the blades in hydroelectric power generators. |
